{10 Year Rule...}
Has anyone noticed that there is a 10 year rule that states something along the lines of "...after 10 years all your appliances give out. They will either need to be replaced, or at least a costly repair."? When Brad and I were first married a friend of mine from work told me about this rule. He said that all our new things will all need to be replaced around your ten year anniversary. I thought at the time, that is forever away, I don't need to worry. Well it came faster than I ever imagined it would. We will be married 10 years in July. Since our anniversary last year we have noticed that lots of things are wearing out. 1. Our vacuum...no biggie, I wanted a new one anyway. 2. Our water heater has not officially kicked the bucket yet, but it is well on it's way. (I hope I didn't just curse us for saying "not yet".) 3. Dishwasher. Then this weekend the dryer...I have kids, I need my dryer. Please let it be something not too pricey. I am a little afraid of what will be next. I really was hoping to buy new family room furniture this spring. I'm still holding out a little, but realizing that it might need to wait. Darn! I have been really looking forward to furniture shopping. All in all, things will wear out, breakdown and go ca put. On the bright side, I have a roof over my head, a family that I adore (and I hope the feeling is mutual) and food in my belly. Life is good and I am very blessed. I just hope that somethings will wait a little while longer before needing to be replaced. I'm beginning to realize that people renew their wedding vows at 10 years just to replace all of their things that have quit working. It's not that they are more in love than ever before (which I am sure they are), they just want all those gifts to replace their worn out stuff.

I just love the 10 yr. rule. So far we've replaced...a washing machine, fridge motor, vacuum, waterheater, garage door springs, and the condensing unit for the AC.
At the rate we are going, I should have just bought a new house!
Oh yes, we too have replaced some things on the garage door opener and I forgot to mention that our water softener has died too. Oh well, it's cheaper than a new home. LOL
LOL... at least your not replacing a knee, hip, back, husband, kids, oh yea and the kids. I hate the ten year rule, except for the fact that I have been married for 10 years and still happily married and in love with my sweetheart. If the rest are as good as the first 10, bring on the rest of the breakdowns... Thanks for the post, it is a fun reminder...
Oh my gosh, that is so true. We're 10 years in August, and I feel like we're replacing everything! Sometimes not always for the fact that it's broken, but that it just looks old or outdated. We really are so blessed to have the things we need though-arent' we.
I think you should get a shower every ten years or so! I mean if you can stand each other for ten years there should be some perks!
